Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh

It was my favourite bak kut teh. Ate it once, many years ago, at Rangoon Road. Have not tried it since Jumbo Group took over and expanded its presence to Chui Huay Lim Club, Tanjong Katong Road and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Chanced upon its new branch at The Forum, B1 of Resorts WorldTM Sentosa recently and decided to eat at the self-service eatery. After ordering at one of the three big vertical screens, we proceeded to the counter with our receipt and waited for the chefs to dish out the food and drinks. Except the centre where items for sharing can be placed, the table top is not flat so we had to eat out of the trays. Do not forget to return them for $1 (deposit) each. My dining companion ordered the spare ribs set which comes with fried you tiao as well as braised beancurd, taupok and peanuts. I had braised pig big intestine and mee suah soup that comes with button mushrooms and tang-o. Also added preserved vegetables  crunchy but too sweet for my liking. We were not impressed.

Skirt

Have always wanted to try the W experience since W Singapore – Sentosa Cove opened but as the name suggests, it is located off the main island. Fortunately, there are four ways into the "State of Fun". They are by cable car, road (bus, car and taxi), Sentosa Boardwalk and Express. As I rather save the money on staycations for overseas trips, eating at a restaurant in the Starwood Preferred Guest hotel is the best option I have. However, it was only during my third attempt that I finally ate at Skirt. The first time, we went on a yatch from Oneo Marina Cove to St John's and Lazarus Islands. Upon returning from the trip, we checked out the restaurants at The Quayside Isle and W Singapore but did not dine at any of them. That was a few months back and earlier this month, we took bus no.3 from the bus interchange at Beach Station in the hope of finding a place to chill or for early dinner.

Syun

Was looking for early dinner at Sentosa over the weekend and decided on Syun, a contemporary Japanese restaurant helmed by celebrity chef Hal Yamashita. With 9 restaurants in Japan, this is his first overseas foray which opened last December. As he hails from Kobe, the menu here is rooted in Kobe cuisine using premium ingredients freshly imported from the likes of Awaji Island and the Tanba area in Japan. According to Resorts World Sentosa's website, Syun will renew our perception of Japanese cuisine with its nouvelle interpretation of Japanese fine dining. Located along Festive Walk, it is a participant of RWS invites that gives up to 50% rebate for two diners. Not outright discount but better than nothing, I guess. There are two entrances, one of which allows customers to walk on stone tiles amidst pebbles and climb two steps up to a raised wooden platform with a wooden table and four wooden stools (saw an out-of-place Dyson bladeless fan too).

L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon

Organised and compiled by William Reed Media, Asia's 50 Best Restaurants collate votes of The World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy  an influential group of more than 900 international leaders in the restaurant industry, each selected for their expert opinion of the international restaurant scene. Ranked No. 24 on 2013's list is L'Atelier De Joël Robuchon, Singapore. Located on the 1st floor of Hotel Michael at Resorts World™ Sentosa, it is on the left of its entrance shared with fine-dining Joël Robuchon Restaurant on the right. It was a weekday evening when my dining companion and I visited the more casual L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon with counter seats around an open-concept kitchen, and a few tables in the main dining area.

Joël Robuchon Restaurant

Conferred Chef of the Century by the prestigious Guide Gault Millau in 1990, Joël Robuchon was the youngest chef ever at 38 years old to receive three Michelin stars for his first restaurant Jamin. In fact, three of his restaurants are in 2013's lists of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants and Asia's 50 Best Restaurants. Ranked No. 24 on the former is L'Atelier Saint-Germain de Joël Robuchon in Paris while No. 23 and 24 on the latter are L'Atelier De Joël Robuchon in Hong Kong and Singapore respectively. Organised and compiled by William Reed Media, the lists collate votes of The World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy  an influential group of more than 900 international leaders in the restaurant industry, each selected for their expert opinion of the international restaurant scene. It was for the legendary (in the culinary world) icon's internationally acclaimed French haute cuisine that I specially made a trip to Joël Robuchon Restaurant.
